Kerens, built by Dave Currah in 2002, originally for Mevagissey, then bought by Torridge Pilot Gig Club in 2008

Kerens has been recently refurbished by Charlie Jenkins, including:
✔️ 5 new planks fitted
✔️ 23 ribs replaced
✔️ Complete rub down and repaint, inside and out

Kerens is a well-maintained, race-ready wooden pilot gig with plenty of life left in her and would make an excellent addition to any club.

The very first GigRower European Championships wil

The very first GigRower European Championships will be one we'll never forget. From the racing to the atmosphere, the laughter, the sunshine (a little too much at times! ☀️😂).

We're proud of every single Torridge crew that took to the water:
🥈 Men's Masters – 2nd out of 16
💪 Men's Vets – 10th out of 19
👏 Ladies Supervets – 18th out of 30
🥉 Ladies Seniors – 3rd in Category C and 27th out of 70 boats overall

It's been a busy week so far on the river Torridge

It's been a busy week so far on the river Torridge. We had to wave goodbye to Appledore @rnli lifeboat Molly Hunt. Some of our Ladies were privileged enough to be the last visitors on it before the crew took her off to Fowey. A cargo ship has been up and down the estuary giving our crews the scaries. Finally we got to give a good wave to the Waverley steam ship. 🚢 ⚓️ #boatlife #row #ship #lifeboat

A huge well done to E..a Taylor on successfully passing her coxing assessment and becoming Torridge Pilot Gig Club's latest qualified Cox! 👏🚣‍♀️

Emma is a valued member of our Ladies A crew, where she demonstrates commitment, teamwork and determination both on and off the water. Alongside her rowing, she also volunteers with Appledore RNLI, dedicating her time to supporting and safeguarding others within our coastal community.

Coxes are an essential part of our club to allow us to have regular rows across racing categories and to allow for social and development rows. In May alone we had 112 boats out on the water! We are extremely thankful for everyone that puts their name forward to cox, often multiple times a week.

Congratulations Emma, a fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved! 🌊🚣‍♀️💙

Ruth: Severe, imminent outbreaks of irritability combined with dense fog.

Allen: Rough at first, becoming smooth or moderate later with rain.

Adam: Moderate at first, becoming rough, then very rough.

Richard: Messy, getting worse with little chance of improvement.

Geoff: Strong at first, going stronger, moving rapidly, becoming warm.

Tom: Strong at first becoming weaker, moderate hopefully good with foggy patches.

Gav: Cyclonic 6 to gale 8, becoming high later.

Oars set steady, blades kiss the tide,
A crew of many, rowing as one stride.
From quiet waters to ocean’s test,
They chase the rhythm, give their best.

Across to Scilly where wild swells roam,
Far from the shores they call their home,
In salt and sun, in wind and spray,
They carve their course through racing day.

Names bound together in each long pull,
Hearts in sync, resolve made full.
For more than glory, more than the win,
It’s the strength of the crew that carries them in.

Eight names set out where the wild tides run,
By the Isles of Scilly, beneath a salt-bright sun.

Simon and Tom with steady hands,
Tony and Adam at the oar’s demands,
Dwane and Gav with a restless cheer,
And Geoff who leans in without a fear.
While Allen, the Cox, calls sharp and true,
Guiding the boat as the gray swells grew.

Three among them new to this stage,
First taste of the world’s wide rowing page,
Two still fresh from a single year,
Yet pulling like veterans, bold and clear.

The oars all rise, the oars all fall,
One rhythm binding the strength of all.
Not just a race, nor a test alone,
But a story of grit in the saltwind thrown.

David in three, Devon’s pride in the stream,
Pulling like there’s jam on top of the cream.

Phil in two, the Duracell drive,
Relentless, unstoppable, keeping us alive.

Mark at one, out front on his own,
Calling it clean, “Don’t row like a…” (you’ve grown).

Then there’s our lord and master astern,
Passenger life? No, he makes us all burn.
Every last ounce with words that provoke,
Dave keeps us sharp, the Torridge GOAT at the yoke.

Now Scillies awaits, the test and the roar,
For all that we’ve trained, and all that we’re for.
The swell will rise, old scores to be paid,
In wild, restless waters where legends are made.

Friday, oh Friday, we leave it in the boat,
Oars lifting high, pride caught in our throat.
For Torridge we row, through the crash and the foam,
Six hearts, one crew… and we bring it home.

Three masters from clovelly,

Made our crew from Torridge complete.
